Does highly sensitive student require special teaching methods ?

Teachers who identify highly sensitive children among their students often ask if any special working methods should be used with these students. Should there be any specific methods and tools supporting work with such a student?

Assuming researchers approach that high sensitivity is not a dysfunction or disorder, it does not require the development of special work methods focused on the correction of the disorder. The only thing a teacher needs is to know what causes certain behaviors of the student and what are their needs in this regard. The teacher can effectively support a highly sensitive child having at the disposal just standard methods and tools of didactic and educational work. What can support teachers’ work is implementing emotional-social skills, teaching self-regulation, and mindfulness. In this case, the approach is important – the attitude of the teacher.
